Tips & My Favorite Spots

How To Thrift Like a Pro: Tips and My Favorite LA Spots

If you are like me and enjoy the excitement of finding special fashion items while being eco- and wallet-friendly, thrifting could be your new thing! Today I will provide some of my top thrifting tips and share a few of my favorite places in Los Angeles to discover unique pieces. One important thing to know is that there are many different price ranges depending on where you go shopping, so keep that in mind. Also, bring a friend because it takes some time to find the real good stuff.

Tips for Successful Thrifting

  1. Inspect the Details: Keep an eye out for stains, missing buttons, or tears. Minor issues can usually be repaired easily, but stay away from pieces you can not fix on your own.

  2. Go at the Right Time: Go on weekday mornings when it is usually less crowded, giving you time and space. Ask the employees what days they restock their items, so you do not miss any good pieces.

  3. Dress Comfortably: I always recommend to wear something light and simple, making it easy to try on the clothes.

  4. Bring Reusable Bags: Many thrift stores give you discounts if you bring your own bags!

Favorite LA Thrift Stores

  1. Crossroads Trading (Multiple Locations): A carefully chosen collection of stylish second-hand clothes. It's an excellent place to find designer items for much less money, but still a bit on the pricey side.

  2. Wasteland (Melrose Avenue): This place offers stylish Vintage items, perfect for the one who likes high-end fashion, and are able to spend a bit more money on good quality and fancy brands.

  3. Jet Rag (La Brea Avenue): This place is famous for its $1 Sunday sales and is great for anyone ready to search through stacks for amazing prices.

  4. The RealReal (Melrose Avenue): Often very expensive with luxury items. They sell designer clothing and accessories in good condition.

Why Thrifting Matters

I hope that you will make use of these tips and maybe try out at least one of my favorite stores. Second-hand shopping is not only about finding your next favorite piece, it is about caring for our planet and resources. You should feel good not only because you are saving money, which is great, but also that we together can help cut down the waste. No matter what store you shop at, luxury or affordable, the feeling of excitement is the same.

Take care!
